DELEGATE: Tell us more about yourself!

I’ve always been a foodie (a nicer word for glutton) growing up. I love food so much I wasted 80% of my savings on trying out new food. I’m also a gamer – I play lots of Dota 2 and PUBG. Oh and of course, I love popcorn 😀

D: What is the vision/mission for your company?

Mission: We aspire to serve popcorn as a staple food

Vision: We will become the market leader in the snacks industry in Singapore by having franchisable, physical corn-concept stores.

D: How did you start your business? What were some of the adversities that you faced?

Believe it or not, this company was an accidental start-up – no one ever aspires to start a popcorn company when they grow up. It started out when I was schooling in SMU – we crashed an event and gave out free popcorn and it eventually took off. Orders starting coming in and the next thing you know we couldn’t keep up with demand. Word got out so fast that we found ourselves closing deals with large corporate clients. Lucky indeed. 🙂

Always be careful when finding the right partner. I had my fair share of getting screwed over by partners whom I thought were my friends.

D: Any trade secrets you can reveal?

Execution is everything. At the end of the day, we didn’t invent popcorn – we just found a way to make it better. 🙂

D: Most memorable experience since starting your business?

When we secured our first corporate sale – the feeling of hitting a milestone and knowing you’re onto something big.

D: What is one thing you would like your customers to know about your company?

Personally, I want customers to know that I am very thankful for their support – it means a lot to small start-up like us.

In terms of product, our popcorn isn’t like the kind you get in cinemas. Not only are they crunchier, we actually bake them (not microwave).

D: What was your first job?

I was paid $9/hr as an usher for the Lion King show at MBS.

D: What aspects of your personality can we see in your work?

D: What is one thing people don’t know about you?

My drive to succeed – I won’t stop working till The Kettle Gourmet is #1.

D: What are your hobbies and passions outside of work?

I love poker and mahjong! Every Friday our company will organize Mahjong night for employees and their friends.

D: Top 3 things you would do with a friend who is visiting Singapore for the first time.

  1. Eat popcorn.
  2. Eat more popcorn.
  3. Nomnomnom.

D: One quote that you live by.
