DELEGATE: Tell us more about yourself

My name is Ming Da and i am a professional magician.

D: How did you get the idea or concept for your business?

I remember the first time i performed a magic trick to someone. The moment when they are amazed and astonished, i love that feeling, and that is why i chose to be a professional magician.

D: What is your vision/mission for your company?

I hope to set myself apart from the other magicians in Singapore and be a successful international performing artist.

D:  How did you start it? What were some adversities you faced when starting it?

I always had an interest in magic since young, but was not really into it as most of the magic i saw was either too big for me (David Copperfield stuff) or just not too cool (kid’s magic that i saw). It was not until i saw David Blaine performing ‘Street Magic’ on TV, that i thought ‘Hey THAT is cool, maybe i can do that’ and never turned around after that. It was not easy. Obstacles faced includes the initial objection from parents, the way people see you as ‘not having a real job’, getting shows and setting up a reputation etc.

D: What is something we might not know about the industry you’re in?

Hmm… not all magicians are nice? hahaha.  Okay, on a serious note, the industry is actually filled with part timers that do not depend on performing magic full time to make a living! I don’t think its good or bad in anyway, it just means that full-timers got to work harder :)amsterdammagicshow3

D: What has been the most memorable experience for you so far in running your business?

Oh. Tough one. I would say performing in Europe has to be one of the most amazing experiences till date. i remember an audience that came to me after the show and said ‘ I have seen many magicians here, but you are the best so far’, which is a real honor. And of course getting very nice testimonials from my clients always warms my heart, especially when times are not too good.

D: How do you define success? Who do you see as successful?

Success is when you can make a stable living doing what you love and you find a purpose in it. Donald trump….NO KIDDING. David Copperfield definitely, and many others that are not famous  and rich but i think they are successful.

D: Which habits of yours have gotten you to where you are today?

Discipline. Set a plan and work towards it. Listen to all advice, DIGEST IT, select what to work on. Many people have offered me advice and i am thankful for them. But something i realized was that i cannot take all of them in, because people just do not know me as well as I do, and at the end of the day when i listen to that small still voice in my heart, i am rarely wrong about it.

D: What is one thing you would like your customers to know about your company?

My company is basically me. There are many magicians out there that will tell you how unique they are with their acts and they are all great in their own rights. For me, i love to have the personal touch when people engage me. I hope that my clients get to know me as a person and like me and hire me based on who i am as a person. So for those of you who are reading this: watch me perform, get to know me as a performer and a person, and if you like it, engage me :)

D: If you could give advice to fellow and budding entrepreneurs, what would it be?

Just do it. Give it a try, aim for the sky, if you fall short at least you land somewhere on top of a tree instead of the ground.

The difference between an entrepreneur and the whining-guy-in-every-office is that the entrepreneur dares to do something about it.

If you fail, brush it off, move on.
