Do you share a fancy for a particular movie or series with your fiancé? Movies and TV shows inspire anything from music to fashion and even events. So why not take those ideas and use them to inspire your wedding day?
Take your cue from these couples (and some of our partners), and transport your much-loved movie or show from the screen onto the aisle.
- Star Wars
Shaoyi and Thara transported their guests to a galaxy far, far away with a Star Wars-inspired wedding. Light sabers, Jedi costumes and Stormtrooper helmets are de rigueur with a wedding of this theme, but the couple stepped it up with the finer details like Star Wars-inspired cake toppers, seat labels, menu cards and even giveaways. The force was truly strong with this couple!

- The Great Gatsby
Brad & Melody channelled the glitz and glamour of Old Hollywood with their Great Gatsby-inspired engagement shoot. To achieve this, Merrylove Weddings took inspiration from the movie’s main character, Jay Gatsby, and used the movie’s iconic colors of white, black and gold. Pearls, feathers, all-around glitter, not to mention the couple’s dramatic looks, completed the 20’s era feel.

- Mad Men
Ben and Valerie’s retro-glamour wedding took inspiration from the series Mad Men. The couple chose an intimate restaurant for their reception, complete with dim lighting and mod styling to evoke the vintage feel of the 1960’s. Chandeliers and a color-combination of black, white and red were the main cues, while strategically-placed florals and lace completed the look. The overall styling, coupled with sleek look of the newlyweds and guests, would’ve made Don Draper feel right at home.

- Midsummer Night’s Dream
There’s no better occasion to evoke the spirit of romance than the big day. For Jason and Amanda’s Midsummer Night’s Dream inspired reception, the ambience was set by a dreamy and intricate forest stage backdrop. Floating candles were strewn all over as an ode to Harry Potter, which the couple is also a fan of. To complete the romantic vibe, there was also no shortage of florals all over the venue, from the welcome arc, to the guest tables and the wedding cake. Even the bride was a vision herself with a multi-hued floral gown!

- Up
Who says cartoons are just for kids? For fun-loving couple Richard and Vera, the Pixar animated series was the perfect theme for their wedding. The groom has always commemorated special occasions in their relationships with balloons, so using Up as their inspiration absolutely made sense. Complete with a replica of the iconic house in the movie, plus adorable touches like topiaries, cupcakes and even boy-scout clad groomsmen, the wedding showed the couples vibrant personality and allowed guests to have fun and let loose.
