DELEGATE: Tell us more about yourself
I’m a mother to a pair of twin boys; yes most people said it would be a handful but I managed to pull through with the help from both mothers while I worked. I have always been in the wedding industry, starting from being a wedding sales manager in a hotel then later on went to join my hubby as a florist and now a wedding planner. Guess I pretty familiar with the wedding scene in Singapore.
D: How did you get the idea or concept for your business?
I think is kind of a process where I moved from hotel to florist and being a wedding planner, it just makes sense. And I’m always the one being arrowed to coordinate the wedding before I was a planner and I didn’t get a chance to enjoy the wedding at all. So I really hope couples can give their bridesmaid and groomsmen a break and let them enjoy the wedding instead by hiring a wedding planner on their actual day.
D: What is your vision/mission for your company?
To let our couples be the best wedding host ever for their wedding.
D: How did you start it? What were some adversities you faced when starting it?
Wedding planning is one of the few businesses that is pretty easy to start but may not be easy to maintain. It was not easy getting client initially especially when you don’t have a portfolio on hand to show to potential couples. It takes a lot of trust and assurance to get that first couple and once you have a portfolio, things get a little easier.
It is not as simple as what people think, most of them will think that is such an easy job standing around during the wedding banquet and getting paid an amount equivalent to another person monthly salary. There is a lot of planning that we need to do prior to the wedding as we need to ensure that the wedding goes smoothly and all necessary preparations have been made.
D: What has been the most memorable experience for you so far in running your business?
Being able to plan a couple’s wedding and then their child’s birthday party. It shows how much they trust you in your work and how friendship has been fostered over the years. We have made a lot of friends throughout these years.
D: How do you define success? Who do you see as successful?
Success is being able to make money through doing what I like. In local context, I think the founders of online clothing company Love Bonito are rather successful, having started at a young age of 20 and already have a very successful brand. For out of Singapore, I do look upon Victoria Beckam as she’s able to juggle both family and work very well.
D: Which habits of yours have gotten you to where you are today?
Read widely, there’s a lot of things to learn in life.
D: What is one thing you would like your customers to know about your company?
Do not feel shy to talk to us, we are pretty flexible and will try to accommodate wherever we can.
D: If you could give advice to fellow and budding entrepreneurs, what wold it be?
Have the desire and passion, the rest will fall in easily.
