5 Tips on How To Dress To Impress

DND season is coming soon and with everyone on the lookout for gala-worthy dinner dresses, how can you stand out from the rest? Fret not, we’ve gathered 5 tips on how to dress to help shine the spotlight on you at your next formal dinner!

1. Start with a clean slate and build on the colours. Untitled design

Black is the safest slate when it comes to clothing choices. Start simple and then add on the colours to highlight your outfit! In this look, we’ve added on touches of burgundy and maroon to lend an air of mature sophistication. What we love about this dress in particular is how it’s business at the front and party at the back with its beaded low-back detail.

2. Or, ditch all the colours and glow instead!

Another fail-safe colour to begin with is white. But, white doesn’t have to mean plain and simple! Go for textures like lace, to add depth to your outfit. Or, find a dress with a certain unexpected touch. The piece de resistance of this simple maxi dress is its unique back details – beautiful silver straps that’ll shine each time the light hits it just right. Stack up silver cuffs, bangles or bracelets with diamante details and you’re sure to dazzle.

3. Try something new.

A gala is an opportunity to try on styles that you wouldn’t normally don. Bring on the slinky silk dresses, and subdued metallic tones! Since such materials already stand out from the classic black dresses, you don’t need to put in much effort to think of how to impress.

4. Play with texture but remember when in doubt, less is more.

For instance, dresses with some beading or prints can add pizzazz to your look. However, don’t overdo it! It is always better to go for something simpler rather than too extravagant. Simply opt for more striking accessories or statement pieces to easily jazz up any simple outfits. Untitled design (1)

5. The little details count.

Little details like not forgetting to spray on some of your signature scent or ensuring that your teeth are free of stray lipstick stains are some essential final touches to any outfit. Carry your look with confidence and don’t forget to smile!

“A smile is the best make up a girl can wear.” – Marilyn Monroe.

Also, some little tricks I use personally before any important events – put on a sheet mask to add some glow to your skin and use some CrestWhite strips to whiten your pearly whites!)

Lastly, don’t forget to keep a look out for some common etiquette you should observe at formal events!

P/S, galas and DND dinners only happen once or twice a year so instead of spending a ton on the dress, why not rent one instead? You get to try something with no commitments and it’s way more economical too!
