We specialise in party decoration, be it curated decor package rental or customised styling service.
D: How did you get the idea or concept for your business?
I was preparing for my baby’s 100th day celebration in Korea. I didn’t want to spend lots of money as I wanted a small party for just family members, and it was almost impossible to shop all the decor items when I had a new born baby. Then I found out that there’s party prop rental service, and decided to bring this business to Singapore after trying the service myself.
D: How did you start it? What were some adversities you faced when starting it?
I spoke to my friend Jasmine, who has 10 years of experience in event management. I knew it would be a win-win partnership when her expertise in management meets my creative designs. It was not an easy journey as “party prop rental” is still a new concept in Singapore and costs required to run the business is much higher in Singapore than in Korea.
D: What is something we might not know about the industry you’re in?
Party styling looks fancy and fun, but it’s actually very, very tiring job. Behind the scene of beautiful events, there are so many moving pieces that we need to put together – design conceptualisation, purchase items, arrange logistics, and set up and tear down on the actual day (which takes longer than you think, and mostly happens on weekends!)
D: What has been the most memorable experience for you so far in running your business?
When we received the first order from a non-friend-customer 🙂 It was our “Finally!” moment.
D: How do you define success? Who do you see as successful?
I believe you are successful if you are happy about what you do. Not many people are happy with their job, and I don’t think it’s meaningful if the success doesn’t accompany with the satisfaction about the work I do.
D: Which habits of yours have gotten you to where you are today?
Exploring new opportunities. I like to learn new things and try different stuff. Design & decor have always been my personal interest, so I made a decision to open my own business about it. It was not an easy decision to leave a well-paying job, but I knew I would regret someday if I never explore this “entrepreneur” side of the world.
D: What is one thing you would like your customers to know about your company?
We care. We care about your special day, we care about our design, we care about the quality of service we provide to our customers. There are many event stylists out there, but we take pride in our tasteful design at affordable price.
D: If you could give advice to fellow and budding entrepreneurs, what would it be?
Let’s not give up! Yes, it’s an advice to myself too. When I consulted other entrepreneurs who started their business few years earlier than me, they all said “Hang in there, it takes time for a new business to take off. If you give up in the first two years, you will only loose what you have invested. Only those who survive those time will see the growth.” Though the business growth is slower than expected, though we face hundreds of big or small issues that we never expected, let’s hang in there.
